Assignment 3
Research, sourcing and diversity

My story idea we discussed in class was dog days, which was about the only no kill animal shelter in Morgantown. I would interview the person who is in charge of the shelter. Her name is Rhonda Smith and her phone number is 304-282-4052. I would interview a dog own. Adam Saad is a dog owner her in Morgantown who I would interview and his phone number is 703-927-0549. I would also interview a random person who doesn’t have a pet. I would interview Ben Tantillo because he doesn’t have a pet. His number is 908-268-8346. A store that exemplifies diversity is Hollister. They always hire different kinds of people from Asian to Caucasian , to exemplify diversity so all kinds of people buy their clothing. I would interview the owner of Hollister which is also the owner of Abercrombie & Fitch. I would interview someone who works their, like Devon Lopez. Her phone number is 304-549-7497. I would also interview someone who shops their like Amber Fissel. Her phone number is 443-676-9535.
Rhonda Smith might know why theirs only one no kill shelter in Morgantown, all the information about where she finds the animals, the hours, who volunteers, the events, and the kind of people who come in to adopt these animals. Adam Saad could know why there are so many animals running in the streets of Morgantown since he’s a student with a dog and how he feels about the no kill shelter in Morgantown. I would interview Ben Tantillo because he doesn’t have a pet so he could give his opinion from an outside view. The owner of Hollister and Abercrombie & Fitch could explain why they hire different kind of people on purpose in detail. He/She could also give all the facts and information I would need about it. Devon Lopez could contribute what its like working in a diverse place and why she chooses to work their. Amber Fissel who is African American could explain why she shops at Hollister.
I found the owner of the animal shelter through a fellow classmate. I found a dog owner through recommendation. I found a non animal owner through a friend. I didn’t find the owner of Hollister and Abercrombie & Fitch. I tried looking through the internet but it doesn’t say. I found someone who works at Hollister through a friend. Last but not least I found someone who shops at Hollister through a family member.
I would interview Rhonda Smith, the women in charge of the animal shelter, for the dog days story. I would ask her 1. How many volunteers they get at the animal shelter. 2. What kind of events do they hold? 3. How many animals they get a week?
4. Why does she think theirs only one no kill animal shelter in Morgantown or near it? And 5. What she loves most about her job?. I would interview Devon Lopez who works at Hollister. I would ask her 1. How diverse is the workplace where she works? 2. Why she works their? Like why does she think they hired her 3. How many different kinds of people does she work with? 4. Why does she think Hollister is so diverse? And lastly 5. Do you like working in such a diverse place?.

Assignment 4
Man on street

I feel as though the assignment was fun and exciting. I don’t think the experience was intimidating because I’m a very outgoing person who can talk to anyone. I’m not afraid to just go up to someone and talk to them about anything. I didn’t think it was awkward either because I’m not a awkward person to talk to, I just make it sound fun and interesting. The assignment itself about social media is already interesting as it is. I’d say I got pretty good information because my questions were clear and straight forward as well as the answers.
The names of the people I interviewed and their phone numbers are, Sam Ingber 845-807-2900, Jennie Dicken 703-474-4590, Jessica Fields 716-720-7233. I found Jennie Dicken leaving Jimmy Johns and I chose her because she looked like an outgoing girl who defiantly uses face book a lot. I stuck to my list of questions with her. Jennie responded exactly how I thought she would. I got good information from her to help me compare each person. She was more of the face book person just as I thought. I found Sam Ingber leaving a sports bar and I chose him because he’s a boy and I wanted to switch it up a bit. I also chose him because he was leaving a sports bar so the character of that stuck out to me a bit. He responded well like I predicted him too. He was more of the professional type who didn’t care as much about face book as Jennie did. I found Jessica Fields in the Mountain Lair. I chose her because I wanted another girls opinion because I feel as though women use social media more than men and they probably know a little more about it. I stuck with my original questions. She responded a little differently in the sense that she doesn’t have an actual email like the others do. She doesn’t think face book is a formal way of emailing but she would choose it over having an email address.
I feel as though I wouldn’t change the questions I asked or ask any more because my questions were clear and straight to the point. If I had to add additional questions I might of asked how the decades have changed with social media and emailing. I also would ask a little bit about the person to see what kind of person they are. I might of asked if you could combined face book and your email would you? As well as other questions in the same area.
The skill of approaching and speaking with strangers can help journalists find out the best information they need for their print or broadcast. It could help them with public speaking since their talking to people they do not know. It could help them take surveys or interviews that will perfect their point of the social media in general. Approaching and speaking to strangers can help communications strategists with their public speaking. It can also help them advertise what the social media wants and likes. Lastly it can help to plan events that people want to go to by interest.

November 3rd English 102 Sec. 25

Homework

-Continue working on “Final for Now”

(Due November 19th By Email To Lindsey Joyce)

-No class on the 17th and 19th

In Class

-Talked about different ways to organize your paper to better suit your thesis We discussed ten different orders:

-Chronological Order

-Reverse Chronological Order

-Cause & Effect Order

-Problem and Solution Order

-Climactic Order

-Anti-Climactic Order

-Process Order

-Classification

-Compare & Contrast

A) Block

B) Point by Point

-Spacial

*It is likely that you will use more than one of these different throughout your paper. For example, you may use Problem and Solution Order AND the Climactic Order. You would start with the least important or easiest problem and solution, and work your way towards the most important (Climax) of your topic.

-Did an exercise in class to choose what claims and arguments are most important for your thesis. Usually when brainstorming, the first claims that come to mind are usually the most important. Joyce suggests that you write down the first claims and arguments that come to your mind and from there craft an outline possibly. Yet that is just a suggestion for those having trouble.

GOOD LUCK!!!
